Description:
Based on an earlier work, Love Sonnets of Michelangelo (1982), this 2007 composition reworks the material, intensifying its emotional quality, making explicit the harmonies ‘implied’ in the original, and ‘amplifying’ the expressiveness of the voice through the rich resonance of strings, in the absence of the actual poems themselves. This version was commissioned and first performed by the Japanese violinist Rieko Suzuki.
