Description:
This piece was inspired by the beguiling sounds of the aeolian harp to which Jack Body was first introduced by Chris Cree Brown. Said to have been first ‘discovered’ by the ancient Greeks, aeolian harps are intended to be played not by human hands, but by the wind. The strings vibrate through a range of harmonics creating an eerie effect difficult to describe. Aeolian Harp is recorded by Mark Menzies (violin) on Wai-te-ata Music Press WTA001, and by Alexander Ivashkin (cello) on Rattle Records RAT-D057. This edition includes versions for violin, viola and cello. It is written entirely in harmonics and requires the use of scordatura.
