Under Southern Skies (2003) is a set of twenty-one songs for mezzo-soprano and piano. The poems, by Anne Powell, are drawn from her collection firesong (Steele Roberts, 1999). Under Southern Skies was premiered by Jenny Wollerman (soprano) and Jian Liu (piano) on 6 February 2024 at the Adam Chamber Music Festival, Nelson. Under Southern Skies may be sung as a complete cycle, or in smaller groupings, or as individual songs.
