Seventeen Pieces for Guitar were composed between 1969 and 1970, except for No. 2, which is an arrangement of the fifth song from Lilburn’s song cycle Sings Harry (1953). The composer worked with Wellington guitarist Milton Parker on the performing edition, which was published by Price Milburn Music in 1975, and is reprinted here. Fourteen of the pieces are recorded on LP by Milton Parker (Kiwi Pacific SLD-47), and the complete set is recorded on CD by Gunter Herbig (Naxos 8.572185).
