Description:
Suite for string quartet was commissioned by Christopher Marshall, as part of the 2009 SOUNZtender project. He suggested a suite of movements, each inspired by an historical model: plainchant, gigue, tango and the music of the second Viennese School. Each movement features, and is dedicated to, one of the members of the New Zealand String Quartet: respectively, Rolf Gjelsten (cello), Douglas Beilman (violin 2), Gillian Ansell (viola), and Helene Pohl (violin 1).
